Cannonball Bed with Carved Quilt Rail

This queen size cannonball bed features many of the classical design elements of a traditional turned post bed: from the ornate hand turned posts which are shaped on the lathe, to the scrolling headboard, to the hand turned quilt rail at the foot of the bed. The foot section of the posts are carved with a leaf design and the quilt rail has a leaf carved center section with carved reeding on each side. The bed is constructed from solid mahogany in a very traditional manner with mortise and tenon joinery, bed bolts to connect the rails to the posts, and bed irons to support box spring. The bed is shown with select ribbon mahogany for the rails and headboard. The headboard shown is done in the style of the empire period. Other headboard designs are available with and without carvings. This bed is also shown with a very detailed turned quilt rail above the footboard. In addition a metal platform box spring support system (shown below) is available as an option for queen sized beds and required for king size beds to support the box springs. The use of another wood, such as walnut, tiger maple or cherry would make a very beautiful piece as well. The bed size, style, wood selection, and coloring can be customized to suit the customer's requirements.
