Pencil Post Bed in Mahogany with Carved Shell

This queen size pencil post bed was constructed of solid mahogany using traditional joinery and construction, including:  the tapered octagonal posts which are shaped by hand with a drawknife and spokeshave, to the hand turned finials at the top. The bed is constructed from solid mahogany with mortise and tenon joinery and bed bolts with covers to connect the rails to the posts.   A hand carved shell - modeled after a shell on a  John Goddard secretary - was carved for the headboard and integrated into the design.  Other headboard designs are available with and without carvings.  The use of another wood, such as cherry or maple would make a very beautiful piece as well.  The bed size, style, wood selection, and coloring can be customized to suit the customer's requirements.
